When your skin needs a little love, nature always has an answer. And who better to guide us than Sunny the Axolotl, our playful DIY queen of the Wild Homestead? Today, she’s showing us how to whip up a soothing herbal salve using ingredients you can grow, forage, or find at your local apothecary.
Why Make Your Own Salve?
Commercial balms are often packed with synthetic fillers. Making your own lets you control what goes on your skin — and trust me, it’s easier (and more fun) than you think. Plus, it’s the perfect beginner project if you're just getting into herbal wellness.
Sunny’s Go-To Salve Recipe
Ingredients:
- ½ cup infused herbal oil (calendula, lavender, or plantain are great)
- 2 tablespoons beeswax pellets
- Optional: a few drops of essential oil (like lavender or tea tree)
Instructions:
- In a double boiler, melt the beeswax into your herbal oil.
- Remove from heat and stir in essential oil if using.
- Pour into a clean tin or glass jar.
- Let it cool and solidify before using.
This balm can be used on dry hands, scrapes, lips, or even as a nighttime moisturizer.
